Yay!

So remember when I did my list of Ike's Silver Linings and said that the stained glass windows in my church were completely untouched? Come to find out, there was one piece missing out of the central window. One missing piece out of twenty windows is not devastating...in fact, the restoration committee had already been looking into getting it replaced.

Well.

The contractors have been working on our church since the week after the storm, clearing debris, securing the roof, tarping, etc. Last week, one of them was picking up more debris when he saw something shiny. Any guesses as to what he found? Yes indeed, the contractor found the one single missing piece from the stained glass window. Isn't that just amazing? There's an article about it here.

There are three sets of the stained glass in the background (hmm. Maybe I'll do a post about the stained glass windows one day. It would give me an excellent reason to just stare at them. And they're also really cool.). It was carpeted, and the dark areas are where the pews were. There are over 400 dehumidifiers and fans in the church...the staff call them brain suckers. And boy are they loud.


The window behind the cross was the one from which the piece of stained glass was missing. Y'all, it may just be one piece of glass, but I assure you that it meant a lot to the church when that piece was found. That contractor is going to have all the casseroles he could ever want. After all, we Methodists do two things remarkably well: establish committees and cook casseroles.
